Whether you’re a casual fan or an art aficionado, you’ll love the variety and convenience that an annual event like the Art Fair Philippines provides. After all, where else will you find top local and international contemporary art in one venue? No wonder it saw over 40,000 visitors last year. Mark your calendars and time a visit to Manila because the next one will be held from March 1 to 4 at The Link carpark in Makati City.
Visitors will have more to look forward to this time around. Among them:
1. Intriguing ArtFairPH-specific projects
At the annual ArtFairPH/Projects section, artists including Kidlat Tahimik and Lyra Garcellano (pictured below) will unveil new works and their own unique take on social issues, current events and cultural traditions. The artwork will range from sculptures to installations to videos.
2. Focus on photography
Involving four galleries and a mix of local and international photographers, the ArtFairPH/Photo section will treat you to the best of Philippine documentary photography and photojournalism. It features artists such as Neal Oshima and Eduardo Masferre, who is known as the father of Philippine photography and produced dramatic images of highland tribes (pictured right).
3. Talks and tours
Choose from 11 talks by artists, experts and collectors under the ArtFairPH/Talks, which is just one of the perks that go with your ticket. Stay tuned for tour updates.
4. More exhibitors
There will be 51 compared to last year’s 44. International galleries and first-time participants include the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI) and FOST Gallery from Singapore, and Mind Set Art Center from Taiwan.
5. Bigger space
There’s also much more to see, as the fair will occupy six levels of The Link’s carpark building instead of last year’s four. Timed entry periods mean you have space and the freedom to walk around and take in all the art. Gallery staff will be present to answer your questions. (Note: organizers are advising visitors not to bring backpacks, as they need to be left at the bag counter.)
Art Fair Philippines 2018 will be held from March 1 to 4, 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, at The Link carpark, Ayala Center, Makati City. Entrance fee is PhP350, with concessions for students.
