And the behind-the-scenes story is pretty inspiring, too
Tourism videos on social media are dime a dozen these days, but we’re pretty excited about the new release from the good folks at the Camiguin tourism office. The video, aptly entitled No Words, just came out in time for the 38th Lanzones Festival happening this week and hits all the right spots — it’s entertaining, engaging and it and showcases the island province perfectly.
The video, just a little over four minutes long, follows the adventures of a first-time visitor to the island province. Watch:
The provincial government of Camiguin commissioned the project, and it was executed by a team of creative millennials, including James de la Vega (producer), Benson Logronio (writer) and ER Alviz (director). Not only that, on the other side of the camera, the video stars theater actress J-mee Katanyag as the tourist, and Camiguin local Marco Augusto Simene as the tour guide. Fun fact: Marco has no prior acting experience and in fact works at the accounting office of the provincial government. Here’s hoping this video gets him “discovered”.
The idea for the video came about when James tapped Benson to write a script based on the theme “Feel Camiguin”. “We wanted to stay away from the traditional tourism ads,” Benson explains. “We wanted it to be relatable and the way to do that was to have a good narrative. I was so excited I wrote the script overnight.”
Even more amazing is the fact that Benson hadn’t ever been to Camiguin before this project. “I did some research online and what I saw were videos that just showed a hodgepodge of Camiguin scenes. They lacked narrative,” says Benson, who writes for ABS-CBN’s drama series Maalaala Mo Kaya. “You can never go wrong with a good story. So that’s what I pushed for.”
After two days of pre-production, the team shot all the footage in three days. “The team clicked. Ang saya lang. Parang yung sayang napanood niyo sa video (It was just as fun as what you see in the video).”
