Don’t miss free talks and bus tours at the first Cebu City Heritage Week

If you’re in Cebu City this week, you’re in luck! Help celebrate the first Cebu City Heritage Week and enjoy a series of talks, bus tours, and tartanilla (horse-drawn carriage) rides from May 28 to 31 — all for free.

The Queen City of the South is the Philippines’ oldest city and its first capital, founded as a Spanish colony in 1565. Its week-long event, organized by the Cultural and Historical Affairs Office, features several heritage-themed activities you can join:

May 28, Tuesday:

  • Duwa nga Kinaraan, an event featuring traditional games like sungka, dama and takyan at Plaza Independencia, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
  • Uray Angkay, a storytelling session of myths and fables at Cebu City Public Library, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

May 29, Wednesday:

  • Cebu City’s Heritage Architecture, a talk by architect Melva Java at Cebu City Public Library, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
  • Osmeña Boulevard Heritage Tour, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • Cebuano Language as Heritage, a talk by Dr. Erlinda Alburo at Cebu City Public Library, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

May 30, Thursday:

  • Pasiyo sa Kabilin Downtown Heritage Tour, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
  • History of Cebu City, a talk by Dr. Joy Gerra at Cebu City Public Library, 10:30 am to 12:00 pm
  • Osmeña Boulevard Heritage Tour, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • Free tartanilla rides at Plaza Independencia, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

May 31, Friday:

  • Pasiyo sa Kabilin Downtown Heritage Tour, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
  • Free tartanilla rides at Plaza Independencia, 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
