It’s the eighth time in a row now — Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named World’s Best Airport in the 2020 World Airport Awards. Skytrax revealed the list of awards on May 10 through a virtual ceremony that was streamed live on Youtube, hoping “to bring some cheer into the airport industry in these difficult times”, said CEO Edward Plaisted in a statement. Tokyo’s Haneda Airport came second, followed by runner-up Hamad International Airport in Doha.

Long touted as a leading example in airport standards of design and entertainment, Changi upped the ante in early 2019 with the grand opening of Jewel, a 10-storey nature-themed retail complex that boasts an indoor forest garden as well as the world’s tallest indoor waterfall with a towering 40m drop. The ambitious project was helmed by award-winning architect Moshe Safdie, whose work also includes the country’s iconic Marina Bay Sands.
Other award categories clinched by Changi this year include World’s Best Airport Leisure Amenities, Best Airport: 60-70 million Passengers, and Best Airport in Asia.
