Airport hacks: Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali

Entertainment options abound at the revamped Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali

Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali

After its revamp and opening in 2013, this busy hub is now light, spacious and airy – a welcome greeting and goodbye to the millions of vacationing tourists who pass through its doors every year. Here are a few tips on how to navigate your way through, and find things to do, as you wait for your trip to or from Bali.

  • If you weren’t able to enquire about your hotel or resort’s shuttle service beforehand, head to the taxi counter when you exit the airport to hire a cab. Prices depend on your destination. You can also try and look for the metered Bluebird taxis.
  • Savour your first – or last – local meal at the airport restaurants that serve tasty Indonesian fare. Or celebrate your flight back home with Western hits like burgers and ribs at the 116-seated Hard Rock Cafe, then order your favorite tipple at Bintang Bar.
  • Rest, work, have a bite to eat, take a shower, or read the papers at lounges such as Dewa, Premier and Prada.
  • Shop for designer brands and gifts for loved ones at the duty-free shops; there are banks, ATM machines and money changers on the various floors if you need cash.
  • Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport Hotel will open this April, and will be easily accessible from the departure hall. It will have rooftop and pool bars, as well as business and fitness centers, to help you relax and kill time in between flights or a layover.
  • Other accommodations that are a few minutes away from the airport include the Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali, The Radiant Hotel & Spa, and Aston Tuban Inn.
