If you’re a Filipino citizen living abroad, the deadline for registration to vote in next year’s mid-term elections is September 30
Mark your calendars, Philippines — the next general election is on May 13, 2019. The mid-term election is to fill 12 seats in the Senate, all seats in the House of Representatives, as well as all regional, provincial, city-level and municipal-level elected positions.
It’s an important exercise in helping safeguard democracy, and all Filipino citizens residing in the Philippines and abroad are duty-bound to participate. For those who live overseas and intend to cast their votes as Overseas Voters but haven’t done so, you have all of September to register at your local embassy or consulate.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- The completed OVF Form No. 1 as prescribed by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC)
- A valid Philippine passport
- For Seafarers, a photocopy of your Seaman’s Book
- For dual citizens (through Republic Act 9225), a certified true copy of the signed Oath of Allegiance/ Order of Approval/ Identification Certificate, in addition to your OVF form and your Philippine passport
Note that the COMELEC may need further documents to establish your identity.
