This is how we roll in Davao

This might be news to some of us Eden Nature Park and Resort in Toril, about an hour’s drive south of Davao City, isn’t just for happy campers hoping to spot deer on long walks or for birders checking off a list of exotic feathered friends, although it’s certainly a favorite decompressing escape among harried Davaoeños.

If you’re up for an adrenaline rush, there’s plenty in the 80ha mountain resort to keep your heart thumping as well. There’s horseback riding along pine forest trails, an adventure course at the Vista Park called Indiana Jones and the Skyswing, a ride that hoists you 29m off the ground while harnessed to a swing. But by far the most bizarre but exhilarating attraction is the Skycycle, a ride that fulfills all your childhood ET fantasies of cycling into the sky. For the Skycycle, you get to pedal across a 200m-long cable, 18m up in the air, on a bicycle. Both rider and bicycle are secured separately onto cables, and once you’ve gotten over the initial fear, you can enjoy the panoramic views — stretching across the lush plains all the way to the Davao Gulf — without fear of falling off your bike (or off the cable).

If you’re pressed for time, the park offers day packages that include buffet lunch (at P600 a head) and separate fees for each attraction (the Skycycle is at P200 per person). Otherwise, stay the night at the resort’s various rental houses — the quaint and cozy log cabin, set amid pine trees, has four bedrooms (plus an annex) and can accommodate up to 14 people.
